INSPIRATION

How about making music together with us? Playing music means arousing emotions in others and in yourself. We all draw immense satisfaction from playing in our band. We think there is nothing better than when the music flows and we are one with our instruments, with the band and with the tune we are playing.

If you are an expat in the Frankfurt area and already an experienced piper or drummer, all the better, we would love you to join us and our existing expats in the band.

Otherwise, if you just happen to read this in English and you are nonetheless new to pipe band music, please do not hesitate to contact us. We train people at all ages and we will also teach you the rudiments of music if you have not played an instrument before. All you need is a little talent, time and dedication.

TUITION

Based on the instrument of your choice and your prior musical training and experience we will work with you to develop your skills as a musician in our band.

The best way to learn the drums or pipes is through a combination of group and individual tuition. As a complete beginner you’d start with the basics, i.e. proper hand and finger positions, basic rudiments on the drum and the scale on the pipe. As time and practice progresses you will develop your dexterity, allowing you to master more complex movements and your first tunes.

Your initial learning experience will not be on the big instruments but on a practice chanter for the bagpipe or a practice pad for drums.

As soon as you are able play an initial set of tunes confidently and accurately on the practise instruments we will start you on the drum or pipe. This will typically be about 9-12 months into your training.

In the band we play both simple and more advanced tunes, allowing you to join in even if you are not yet fully trained.

If you are already a fully trained piper or drummer you will find experienced players in the band who would love to jam with you. Depending on your playing level you could help us to develop the band further or indeed benefit yourself from our workshops with top players and teachers from Scotland.

What’s cool about the Clan Pipers is that I get a little bit of everything from being in the band. I have a lot of fun with other younger players in the band doing gigs. Everybody is willing to help one another when needed, and especially the more experienced players are a great source of knowledge. When we are out and about we have some fantastic experiences. Back in our hall, during practice, we also have a lot of fun, but it is there and at home that the work is done. The climax of the season is marching into the competition arena, well prepared and raring to go.

Timo, Side Drummer

I started singing when I was 9, discovered my love of music and progressed to become a solo singer as a young adult. Why I got hooked on the bagpipes when I was 16 I really don’t know. In any case, it took me three attempts to properly start on the instrument as I first tried teaching myself at the kitchen table using a tutorial. Hearing and meeting a piper at a local wedding made all the difference. He persuaded me to join his band. It just shows what difference it makes to have a decent teacher. Now, seven years on, I am a band player, playing gigs, competitions and generally having a good time with the other players.

Julia, Piper

My parents are in the band and joining the band came naturally. I started learning the side drum and enjoy playing with the Clan Pipers a lot, it’s simply great fun. I am learning how to play the drums and the team spirit in the band is super. On top of that we have some very cool gigs.
